Pair Of Norwegian Shaker-style Accent Chairs Produced By Roche Bobois In 1980

A pair of occasional chairs whose design is inspired by traditional Norwegian furniture and also resembles the American Shaker style—characterized by strict simplicity in form and the use of natural materials—here in a version produced by Roche Bobois in the early 1980s.

The frame is made of solid beech wood.
The overall look is dominated by a high backrest with straight slats, topped by turned posts. The height of the backrest is accentuated by the lowered rear crossbar, which sits below the seat level—a design detail that demonstrates a perfect mastery of construction techniques.
The seat consists of a checkerboard weave of thick fabric strips in the original green color.
The joints and the base, reinforced by crossbars, are stable and functional. The cotton weave retains the same tension it had when new and is exceptionally sturdy.
The rear legs feature a conical metal insert topped with a swivel glide.
The piece is in good, used condition, with slight signs of patina consistent with its age on the wood and very subtle marks on the fabric.
Standard dimensions for use as dining or office chairs—I mention this because the height of the backrest might make the seat appear low, when in fact it is not.
