The Château de la Verrerie is located in Oizon in the Cher department, near Aubigny-sur-Nère, on the border between Berry and Sologne.
It is situated near a large pond fed by the Nère River, which separates the Cleffy Forest from the L’Aumone Forest.
This painting is signed “Saint Alban” in the lower right corner and bears the inscription on the back: “The dead trees on the pond at Château de la Verrerie.”
It is sold in a sumptuous, richly carved and gilded frame.
Michel Roy, known as Michel Saint Alban, was a French artist born in 1913 who died in May 2015 at the age of 101.
A painter and sculptor, he is best known for his landscapes of France, as well as those of Africa and the Seychelles.
He exhibited his work on numerous occasions:
- the Carlton Gallery in Cannes in 1797, 1973, and 1974.
- the Contemporary Arts Gallery in Monte Carlo in 1975.
- the Galerie Vendôme in Paris in 1988.
- the Galerie Alexandre in Paris in 1992
