Théodore Lévigne, born in Noirétable in 1848 and died in Lyon in 1912, was a painter representative of the Lyon School. A student at the École des Beaux-Arts in Lyon, and later of Jean-Léon Gérôme and Alexandre Cabanel in Paris, he developed a body of work devoted primarily to landscapes, portraits, and genre scenes.
His works are held in several French public collections, notably in Lyon, Chambéry, Nice, Tournus, and Nuits-Saint-Georges.
