Antique Chinese Bronze Weituo Pusa Buddhist Guardian, Ming, 16th–17th Century

An antique Chinese bronze figure of Weituo Pusa, the youthful guardian of the Buddhist faith, Ming dynasty, 16th–17th century.

Weituo is represented standing in an assertive pose, wearing elaborate armour with beast-mask shoulder guards.

The figure retains a dark, naturally developed patina.

Height: 25.5 cm.

Condition: Numerous faults. Whether these are casting faults or later damage, I have been unable to ascertain. Please see the detailed close-up photographs, which illustrate the condition fully.
