A Vietnamese silver betel-chewing lime box (vôi container), complete with its three original hanging tools, dating from around 1900–1930. The lid is made from a 1902 French Indo-China coin (République Française), a feature typical of Vietnamese silversmithing of the period.
The small cylindrical container opens to reveal the cavity for powdered lime, and beneath it hang three chained tools: two straight picks and one curved spatula, used in the preparation of the betel quid.
Hand-worked silver with fine traditional detailing. These personal betel sets were worn suspended from the belt and were a daily accessory throughout Vietnam at the time.
Height of container: 2.7 cm. Good condition.
