Guri lacquered wooden inro. Inros served as portable, compartmentalized medicine boxes, worn attached to the kimono belt. The guri technique uses lacquer with numerous alternating layers of red and black, each layer being revealed during the decoration process. Japan, Meiji period (19th century), 8 x 5.5 x 2.5 cm.
