Karl Lagerfeld - Original Sketch
Fashion sketch
Original signed drawing, mixed media on cardstock, stamped with the Chanel fashion house logo, created with markers, pastels, and colored pencils. Two fabric swatches pinned to the two upper corners.
Dimensions: 30 x 21.8 cm
Provenance: former collection of Madame Renée Houlière; drawings gifted by Karl Lagerfeld to Renée Houlière (1928–2020), workshop manager at Anita Briey’s atelier for Chanel.
Anita Briey, born in 1939, began working at Jacques Fath at the age of 16. On August 17, 1955, she joined the House of Chanel as a seamstress, which was still headed at the time by Mademoiselle Chanel. She later worked at the House of Chloé with Karl Lagerfeld, who would never want to part ways with her again. Anita Briey approached sewing as a calling. Their professional relationship lasted for more than forty years, until the designer’s death in 2019.
