Chinese Porcelain Fountain - Blue-and-white Family
Porcelain wall fountain. Early 18th-century China. Kangxi period (1662–1722). Blue-and-white porcelain. With a ribbed baluster shape, it features a polychrome decoration accented with gold. Motifs of birds (kingfishers) among branches, peony and plum blossoms, rocks, and foliage. Two friezes complete the decoration with motifs of carp, flowers, and a crab. The spout housing the faucet features the mask of a mythical animal. The top consists of two facing dolphins whose tails have been eroded over time. Note the signs of previous restorations, particularly on the dolphins’ heads and at the right corner of the base.
