18th Century Louis XV Carved And Giltwood Wood Paneling Trumeau Featuring A Musical Trophy Moti

A large chimney-breast panel featuring a vertical composition with a molded frame, surmounted by a slightly projecting cornice. The upper section, with its shaped outline, is adorned at the center with an elaborate musical trophy carved in high relief, comprising a lute or mandolin, two oboes, sheet music, and a cluster of instruments, all embellished with stylized foliage and branches.

The entire composition is set within a frame with undulating contours, punctuated by clasp motifs, volutes, and sinuous moldings characteristic of the Rocaille style. The lower section is dominated by a large rectangular mirror with scalloped edges, the upper part of which is highlighted by a spectacular carved and gilded decoration consisting of a stylized shell, foliage scrolls, and asymmetrical volutes.

The ornamentation, based on an interplay of curves, counter-curves, and plant motifs, fully embodies the aesthetic of the reign of Louis XV, in the Rocaille style of the first half of the 18th century. The polychrome finish, predominantly light beige accented with gilding, features an antique patina and signs of wear that contribute to the piece’s authenticity and decorative character.
