Louis XV Queen's Armchair Circa 1750

Queen Anne Armchair - Louis XV Period - Circa 1740-1760 - Origin: France - Carved beechwood - Mortise and tenon joinery with pegged joints - Later upholstery - Dimensions: Height: 96 cm, Width: 75 cm, Depth: 85 cm - Exellent condition - Old restorations - Certificate of authenticity - International shipping available. The replacement of the chair upholstery can be done free of charge, the fabric remaining at the customer's expense.

This armchair, known as a "Queen Anne" armchair, features a flat back and rests on four cabriole legs. The natural wood frame has a serpentine silhouette, characteristic of French seating furniture from the mid-18th century.

The rectilinear back is framed by a sinuous molding and surmounted by a slightly undulating upper rail, adorned with low-relief carving. The deeply serpentine seat rail is embellished in its center with a carved rocaille and floral motif.

The armrests, fitted with cuffs, rest on curved supports that blend harmoniously into the overall design. The cabriole legs flare outwards towards the bottom and terminate without added sabots, in accordance with the practices of the period.

The sculpted decoration, executed with restraint, consists of stylized plant motifs (leaves, small flowers) and discreet rocaille elements.

The ornamentation highlights the structural points of the seat (back rail, seat rail) without excess, demonstrating a balanced and high-quality production. The upholstery is covered in a tapestry with a polychrome floral design on a dark background, reminiscent of 18th-century French productions, particularly those of the Gobelins or Aubusson Manufactories.

This armchair exemplifies the characteristics of the Louis XV style: a predominance of curved and asymmetrical lines, an abandonment of the strict symmetry inherited from classicism, a naturalistic inspiration for the decoration, and a quest for comfort and elegance in domestic furnishings.

In excellent overall condition, the structure is stable, with a uniform wood patina and wear consistent with its age.

This armchair is a representative example of Louis XV seating furniture, combining elegance, comfort, and decorative refinement. Its "à la reine" style, curved frame, and floral upholstery make it an emblematic piece of 18th-century French taste, suitable for both a classic interior and a museum setting.
