Stunning 19th-Century Gilded Bronze Borghese Miniature Crater Vase with Dionysian "Grand Tour" Decor

Magnificent miniature replica of a chiseled and gilded bronze crater vase from the Empire period; restored in the first half of the 19th century
​Directly inspired by the famous ancient Borghese Vase housed at the Louvre Museum, this piece is a fine example of the Grand Tour souvenirs highly prized by the nobility and the upper middle class of the 19th century.
Richly decorated in relief with a Dionysian frieze depicting a Bacchic procession featuring satyrs, fauns, Dionysus, a thyrsus, and grapevines
Two twisted, interlaced side handles with gadroons, beautifully crafted.
The upper rim features an oves pattern, and the molded shower-shaped foot rests on a circular base.
Original mounting with a threaded rod and wrought-iron nut beneath the base, a mark of 19th-century authenticity.
Height: 12.5 cm
Diameter at the neck: 14.5 cm excluding handles
​Superb overall condition for its age. Original gilding displays a beautiful patina of age, with slight wear and oxidation from use that enhance its charm and authenticity. Structure is perfectly sound, with no cracks or major defects.
