Saint Andrew is depicted with the large X-shaped cross of his martyrdom and two fish, referring to his original occupation as a fisherman. In the background, Callot includes two small scenes from the Apostle’s life: his preaching and his martyrdom.

The print belongs to Les Grands Apôtres, a series engraved in 1631 during Callot’s mature period, after his return to Nancy following his long stay in Italy.

Early impression on handmade laid paper, consistent with a 17th–18th-century printing.

Impressions of the same etching are preserved at the Musée du Louvre and the National Gallery of Art, Washington.

Good condition. Margins slightly trimmed.
