5 Watercolors, Models for “Strasbourg” Faience Plate Decorations, Ceramic Workshop Archive, 20th Century

Five original watercolors on paper, probably originating from the archive of a ceramic decorating workshop. The sheets depict floral compositions created as models for the celebrated “Strasbourg” faience tableware pattern, inspired by the traditional designs of 18th-century French manufactories.

Each sheet bears handwritten workshop annotations such as “Strasbourg”, “plat rond” and “sans filet”, together with a numbering system identifying the individual floral groups, allowing the different decorative elements to be combined and adapted to the various shapes of the service.

The group was preserved together with tracing papers used to transfer the designs onto ceramic surfaces. These workshop documents, belonging to the same archive, can be supplied to the purchaser upon request.
