Neoclassical Desk With Floral Vase Marquetry Tuscany Late 18th Century
Neoclassical Desk with Floral Vase Marquetry .
Tuscany
Late 18th century
Elegant Tuscan neoclassical desk from the late 18th century, veneered and inlaid in walnut, olivewood and boxwood.
The decoration combines geometric stringing, oval reserves and stylised floral vases within medallions, in a manner close to the finest Italian neoclassical productions.
The top displays a radial veneer pattern. The sides are fully finished, confirming its intended use as a centre-room piece. The side panels are decorated with floral vase marquetry, with particularly refined inlay work also visible inside the central tier and around the drawers.
The desk opens with seven drawers arranged over three rows, with a shaped central tier and a pull-out writing slide beneath the top. It stands on four tapered truncated-pyramidal legs highlighted by delicate vertical inlays.
The handles and escutcheons are gilt bronze in the late 18th-century taste.
One key present.
Beautiful old patina, with restorations and wear consistent with age.
