17th Baroque Battle Scene By A Follower Of Jacques Courtois

This oil painting depicts a lively cavalry battle scene, a genre typical of Baroque painting at the turn of the 17th and 18th centuries. Stylistically, the work echoes the styles of masters of the genre such as Francesco Graziani, known as Ciccio Napoletano, or the circle of Jacques Courtois (the Burgundian).
The scene depicts a frenzied clash between horsemen in an open landscape with trees and hills in the background, characterized by vigorous brushstrokes and strong contrasts of light, typical of Baroque battle painters.
