Early 17th Florentine Tabernacle-style Reliquary Frame In Ebony
A rare Florentine reliquary frame in the shape of a tabernacle, dating from the early 17th century. Made of ebony with a core of ebonized wood, it features a broken pediment resting on two twisted columns; the predella houses four relics (bone fragments) with cartouches enclosed in glass-covered niches. 17th-century Florentine tabernacle frames are masterpieces of cabinetmaking and miniature architecture, inspired by Renaissance aedicules but with a more complex structure.
