Louis Gaston Amédée CHARPENTIER-BOSIO (1858–1923) “Portrait of a Young Girl with a Fan” A magnificent oil on canvas, signed in the upper left corner and dated 1891.
This splendid, large-scale painting depicts a young girl in a lilac evening gown holding a fan in her hands. In this painting, Bosio demonstrates his full skill as a portraitist, perfectly capturing the emotionally charged moment and the anxious anticipation of a young debutante entering society. The light enveloping the painting falls upon her face, highlighting her dark eyes and fair complexion. The painterly execution is exceptional.
The painting is in excellent condition: on its original canvas, it still has its original gilded wooden frame.
Louis Gaston Amédée CHARPENTIER-BOSIO, born in Paris on February 4, 1858, and died in Paris on April 21, 1923, was a French artist. The son of the painter André-Amédée CHARPENTIER-BOSIO and grandson of Astyanax Scaevola BOSIO, he was a student of William BOUGUEREAU and Tony ROBERT-FLEURY, a landscape painter, he was a member of the Salon des artistes français, where he received an honorable mention. In 1890, he became an honorary member of the Salon des artistes français. He worked for three years at the Villa Medici in Rome. He received an award in 1892, was awarded a third-class medal in 1895, and won a bronze medal in 1900 at the Paris World’s Fair.
