Provençal Mirror With A Carved And Gilded Wooden Pediment, Featuring A Vase Of Flowers, Louis XVI Period
A mirror with a finely carved and gold-leafed wooden pediment, from the Louis XVI period.
The entirely openwork pediment is centered around an antique-style gadrooned vase with two handles, from which a bouquet of blooming flowers spills forth. On either side, garlands of flowers and foliage unfurl, extending at the corners into two tiered clusters that broaden the silhouette.
The frame is punctuated by fluted uprights with serrated fluting, set within square fluted blocks at the four corners. The sides feature acanthus scrolls coiled into volutes, carved from solid wood and set apart from the frame. The base rests on two ball-shaped feet decorated with a checkered wickerwork pattern.
The interior field is highlighted by a beaded moldings and a cove molding, framing the glass panel.
Beautiful antique gilding with a warm patina.
