Jérôme Massier - Pair Of Large Art Nouveau Earthenware Vases / Pitchers
Rare and elegant pair of pitcher vases, attributed to Jérôme Massier (1850-1916), an emblematic figure of Vallauris art ceramics in the late 19th century.
These spectacular pieces perfectly illustrate the Art Nouveau aesthetic, with a slender, organic line evoking a growing plant form. Each vase is adorned with a stylized female figure in relief, integrated into the very structure of the object, in a graceful, sensual posture typical of the iconography of the period.
The glaze features a subtle nuanced gradation from celadon green to mordant brown, with dripping effects and natural variations that testify to mastered craftsmanship. The fluted base reinforces the plant-like aspect, while the slender neck accentuates the verticality and elegance of the whole.
Each piece is unique for its slight variations in enameling, while maintaining perfect harmony within the pair.
Late 19th - early 20th century production, in the tradition of the Massier workshops.
