Art Nouveau Bronze Floor Lamp Featuring A Crane And A Lizard
A significant floor lamp depicting a crane at the foot of a flowering tree, crafted entirely of bronze with polychrome patinas.
The base, shaped like a broad water lily leaf with wavy edges, displays remarkable quality of chiseling: the veins, the leaf’s cellular structure, and the texture of the epidermis are rendered with a chisel across the entire surface. A small naturalistic scene unfolds here—a curled-up lizard, with scaly skin patinated in green, and a finely engraved gilded bronze beetle, perched apart on the leaf.
The wading bird, standing on its tall, ringed legs, features plumage entirely chiseled feather by feather, with a verdigris patina tinged with gold. The head, raised toward the canopy, is rendered with evident anatomical accuracy.
The shaft depicts a tree trunk with textured bark, entwined with vine tendrils featuring serrated leaves and tendrils. It blossoms at the top into a canopy of flowering branches, with corollas and foliage made of cut sheet metal and painted in shades of tea-rose and almond green, forming a crown around the globe.
The globe, made of white opal glass, rests in a collar of leaves.
