Large glazed ceramic mirror by Marion de Crécy (born in 1954), daughter of ceramic artist Mithé Espelt (1923–2020), whose work she continued at the family studio in Lunel.
The frame consists of molded ceramic stiles imitating bamboo, covered in crackled gold with warm highlights, accented by a narrow band of deep blue enamel. At the corners, generous bouquets of foliage in green enamel—ranging from soft green to bottle green—unfold, punctuated by turquoise-blue enamel flowers and buds on golden twigs.
The contrast between the crackled gold of the bamboo and the freshness of the botanical enamels gives the mirror a jewel-like radiance, in the direct tradition of Mithé Espelt—who trained in Paris under Line Vautrin — from whom Marion de Crécy inherited a flair for color and mastery of gilding techniques.
The studio’s mirrors are entirely handcrafted: shaped, molded, enamelled, and then enhanced with 10% gold crackle. Each piece is one-of-a-kind.
