A rare large portrait of a Native American chief created in 1930 by a representative of the lost generation of Austrian artists of Jewish origin, whose fate after the onset of the terrible Nazi era remains unknown to researchers. According to the Dictionary of Austrian Artists, Steffi (Stefanie) Ventura, an Austrian painter of portraits and still lifes, was born in Vienna in 1891. She studied under Felix Albrecht Harta and was a frequent exhibitor in Vienna (1927, 1934) and at the Parisian salon of the Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts.
