1-LITER CUP AND SAUCER IN PARISIAN PORCELAIN — CLIGNANCOURT MANUFACTORY (PIERRE DERUELLE PERIOD)

In generally good condition, with normal wear on the gilding; a slight period crack on the saucer should be noted.
A beautiful set comprising a “litron”-shaped cup and its matching saucer in hard-paste porcelain from Paris, from the prestigious Clignancourt Manufactory. The cup features the pure cylindrical silhouette characteristic of the neoclassical style of the Louis XVI era, adorned with a simple loop handle. The decoration, entirely hand-painted, displays superb polychromy and rich ornamentation:

• The borders are adorned with a wide, continuous frieze alternating between a delicate band of stylized flowers (blooming carnations or cornflowers in shades of pink and purple) set against a finely dotted (“sanded”) background gold and black, accented with soft green scrolls and foliage.
• The body of the cup and the rim of the saucer feature an elegant, continuous design consisting of a scattering of brilliant gold stars (or barbel). 
• The gold highlights are accentuated by superb, delicate gilded “wolf’s tooth” friezes and gold fillets along the edges—features typical of high-end Parisian productions that rivaled those of Sèvres.

Mark and Historical Context On the underside of the cup is the period mark, stamped in iron red and depicting the stylized monogram “D” beneath a crown. This prestigious mark dates to the period when Pierre Deruelle (founder of the manufactory from 1771 to 1775) was at the helm. Protected by Louis-Stanislas-Xavier, Count of Provence and brother of Louis XVI (the future Louis XVIII), the Clignancourt factory was then nicknamed the “Manufacture de Monsieur”. Its hard-paste porcelain pieces were renowned for their exceptional finesse, the whiteness of their glaze, and the sumptuousness of their gilding, rivaling the finest pieces from the Royal Porcelain Manufactory of Sèvres.
