A beautiful gouache painting (with watercolor highlights and charcoal/pencil lines) depicting a lively scene of fishermen returning from a fishing trip at the harbor.
It depicts fishermen in traditional attire (sailors’ jackets, yellow oilskins, and overcoats) bustling around baskets of freshly unloaded fish at the foot of the rigging and sailboats docked at the pier. A lively composition showcasing a masterful handling of light and movement.
Technique: Gouache and watercolor on paper/cardboard
Date: Early 20th century (circa 1900–1930)
Signature/Monogram: Signed lower left.
Framing: Sold in its mat with a rich antique molded frame gilded with gold leaf.
CONDITION
Artwork: In good overall condition considering its age. Some slight foxing or yellowing of the paper due to age, which lends it its authentic charm.
Frame: Antique frame in very good condition with a beautiful original patina (note slight micro-chips in the gilding; see photos).
Condition: The gouache colors retain their fresh vibrancy.
Dimensions without frame: 50 cm / 33 cm. With frame: 59 cm / 42 cm.
