"Rainly day in New York", due to the back inscription this Art Deco painting was executed in New York in 1937 by an American artist, signed indistinctly.
The figure and especially the face of the woman getting out of the car with the purchases are very reminiscent of the famous German actress Marlen Dietrich. As is known, in the 1930s, when the painting was painted, she starred in several films in Hollywood and also lived in New York.
Inscription: signed indistinctly lower right, on the back of the painting is old inscription: New York 1937.
Technique: gouache on paper, matted, gilt antique frame.
Measurements: image w 12 5/8” x h 17 7/8" (32 x 45,5 cm); matted and framed w 22” x h 27 1/2” (56 x 70 cm).
Condition: in very good condition.
