Paul Alexandre Hannaux (1897–1954) was a renowned 20th-century French painter, Orientalist, illustrator, and set designer. A former student at the École nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Ernest Laurent’s studio, he combined a solid academic training with prestigious awards:

Artistic Lineage: The son of the famous Metz-based sculptor Emmanuel Hannaux, he maintained strong ties to Lorraine and Metz even while living in Paris.
Style & Influences: A blend of classical rigor and modernist/expressionist sensibility (notably inspired by Oskar Kokoschka). His palette evolved from muted, earthy tones during his stay in Spain to vivid, colorful light under the influence of Delacroix.
Favorite Themes: Orientalist scenes, travel landscapes (Spain, Morocco, Sub-Saharan Africa, Italy/Venice, Yugoslavia), floral still lifes, and genre scenes (carnivals, the circus, musicians).
