Description An exceptional and rare amputation saw (or arched bone saw) made of polished steel and an ebony handle, a precious testament to the high art of Parisian medical cutlery from the late 18th century. The instrument features a remarkable arched frame with an elegantly curved and molded profile, characteristic of the aesthetic care taken with surgical instruments of this era. The ergonomic handle, crafted from solid ebony, provides the practitioner with a firm and elegant grip. The original serrated steel blade is held taut at its base by a butterfly screw fastening system.
Hallmark and Signature On the flat surface of the metal frame, the object bears a very clear marking: "PRADIER A PARIS", accompanied by the master cutler’s hallmark depicting a right hand. The Pradier company, based in Paris, is one of the leading names in fine and surgical cutlery of this period, highly renowned for the technical perfection of its blades and precision instruments.
