19th Century Tripod Convex Magnifying Glass
19th Century Convex Tripod Magnifier. The earliest known manufactured and patented model of this magnifying glass dates from 1796. A screw-thread system allows for focusing. This instrument was given several names: "magnifying glass for evenings" by Lerebours and Secretan, or "magnifying glass for botanical and zoological studies" by the Central Scientific Company. The term "dissecting magnifying glass" was also used by Bausch and Lomb in 1912. Very good overall condition, glass in perfect condition, lens lacquer slightly worn, finely chiseled piece.
