Beautiful apothecary or office mortar, 18th or early 19th century, massive, from red marble from Languedoc, (Conflans quarries, Villefranche?) Pyrénées Atlantique, Streets of Prades are paved with it!
Thick truncated cone shape, 4 powerful buttresses, tool carved, a pouring spout,
the choice of this red marble makes it an eminently decorative object.
It is accompanied by a pestle from turned boxwood, solid, superb turning.
Height 12cm, Diameter 25.5cm (ear to ear). Pestle: 27cm x 6cm. Weight approximately 5.6kg: no air export possible.
Condition: excellent, small chips on edge, light wear, a certain rusticity in manual carving.
