Five pieces of Beijing silk painted with plant-based dyes for export to Europe by the East India Companies, dating from the mid-18th century. Hand-painted scenes of Chinese figures, which were very fashionable in 18th-century Europe as part of what came to be known as “Chinoiserie.” These are precious and very fragile pieces with several tears in the silk. Must be mounted flat within a frame. Condition is precarious, but the original colors are preserved.
