Orientalist Oil On Canvas By Pierre Henri Théodore Tetar Van Elven (1823–1908)

Artist: Pierre Henri Théodore Tetar Van Elven
Orientalist oil on canvas by Pierre (Pieter) Henri Théodore Tetar VAN ELVEN, also known as
Hueter Henricus Theodorus (Pierre) Tetar Elven (August 30, 1828 – May 1, 1908) was a 19th-century Dutch painter, draftsman, engraver, watercolorist, and panorama painter.
He had a preference for architecture, landscapes, and cityscapes. He also painted a few genre works for French and Italian high society (he was appointed court painter by Victor Emmanuel II of Italy).
In 1866, he left for Tunisia and Turkey, possibly traveling with Tinco Lycklama van Nijeholt, whom he depicted on several occasions in Oriental attire. By 1869, he was living in Paris. Around 1873, he returned to Amsterdam.

Canvas depicting a scene of merchants and travelers in a bustling square near the Bosphorus in Istanbul.
The canvas has no holes, no past restorations, and none are anticipated.
The canvas is signed in intaglio within the paint layer in the lower left corner, as visible in the photo.
The canvas is mounted on a key-frame.
