"Old Sepia Wash Drawing By P De La Rive, 19th Century"
An old sepia wash drawing depicting a shepherd and his goat under oak trees bordering a waterfall, seemingly gazing at Le Môle. The work is partially mounted (at the top back) on a sheet of paper and cardboard from the same period. The mountain landscape scene is probably in the vicinity of Geneva. I believe there is a partial signature at the bottom, but I cannot fully decipher it. On the back, there is an old handwritten note in ink: "Pierre Louis de la Rive (Switzerland, late 18th/early 19th century)." I cannot confirm that it is indeed by this highly regarded artist, but the technique and subject matter are quite similar to works found online. Purchased at a flea market in Divonne-les-Bains (on the Swiss border, 12 km from Geneva) about fifteen years ago, and recently acquired from an apartment clearance in Nyon (Switzerland), also near Geneva. I do not have the frame as it was too damaged. Dimensions of The artwork alone measures 32.8 x 34.4 cm. Minor foxing consistent with age, as seen in the photos, which also serve as part of the description. Packaging: Item carefully packaged. Delivery: Collection in Nevers.
