Drawing Of Countess De Bizy, Bizy Castle, Eure
Drawing of Countess Louise Rose Babaud de La Chaussade, born March 31, 1747. A prominent family of industrialists from the Nièvre region in the 18th century, the family is best known for Pierre Badaud (1706-1792), ironmaster in Guérigny and close to the royal administration, who supplied ironworks to the navy. Louise Rose Badaud de La Chaussade was the daughter of Pierre Babaud de La Chaussade, ironmaster and supplier to the Royal Navy, and his second wife, Anne Rose Le Comte de Nonant de Pierrecourt. On November 26, 1765, she married Etienne François de Bizy, musketeer and Lord of Fougis. Through this marriage, she became Countess de Bizy. She died in 1817. A woman of letters, she left writings preserved in the archives of the Château de Bizy. She played an active role in managing family affairs, particularly during the turbulent period of the revolution. According to local sources, when her husband and son were imprisoned in 1794, she exerted considerable effort, visiting the Committee of Public Safety and petitioning, notably leveraging her then-friendship with the philosopher Jean-Jacques Rousseau to secure their release. She maintained a correspondence with Rousseau, exchanging letters from October 1769 to August 1770, demonstrating her membership in the enlightened intellectual and literary circles of the time. This is a pair of drawings on sanguine brown paper, pastel and chalk, in an oval giltwood frame of the period. The glass and the rag cardboard backing are original. Authentic drawings of fine quality with a slightly mischievous air. These drawings are photographs from the period and are intended for the husband for private use. Historical and very decorative.
