Pansu Vase With Butterfly Design, Ceramic By Simone Larrieu

Artist: Simone Larrieu, 1912-1996
Simone Larrieu (1912–1996) was a renowned French ceramicist. Her works are particularly rare on the market and highly sought after, due to her limited output and the exceptional quality of her craftsmanship.
Simone was the daughter of Octave Larrieu, himself a ceramicist, with whom she worked in a small studio they established in 1930 in Maubourguet, on Rue de la Gare. Her father focused primarily on form, while Simone concentrated on decoration, as she was also a watercolorist. The colorful glazed decorations range from vibrant to more subdued. She created large, stylized flowers for vases and pitchers.
Many pieces signed by Octave thus feature designs created by Simone. In 1936, Simone left the village to follow her husband to Paris. She returned in 1939 and opened her own studio. She then turned her attention to producing plates and pots for more everyday use. She settled in the Gironde region at the end of the war. She devoted herself more to oil painting, pastels, watercolors, and gouache. Simone’s ceramic works are described as exceptional by experts.
