Clairière à Bercenay-en-othe, Oil On Board By Louis Cabat, 1857
Student of Camille Flers, Louis-Nicolas Cabat made his debut at the Salon of 1833. A member of the Accademia di San Luca in Rome, he was elected member of the Académie des Beaux-Arts of the Institut de France in 1867, and became director of the Académie de France in Rome from 1879 to 1884.
The painter, son-in-law by marriage of Augustin African Stourm, lived there and painted many landscapes.
