Diwane In Algeria, Watercolor Drawing By Alfred Chataud
Artist: Alfred Chataud, Marseille 1833- Alger 1908
Alfred Chataud studied under Émile Loubon from 1857 to 1860, then moved to Paris and worked in Charles Gleyre’s studio. Since his family owned property in Algeria, he made several short trips to that French colony beginning in 1856, before settling there permanently in 1892, near Sidi Moussa. He exhibited paintings with Orientalist themes at the Salons from 1864 to 1885.
