Plaines Et Monts Aux Alentours De Rome, Oil On Canvas By François Biennourry
Son of Étienne Pierre Victor Biennourry and Marguerite Clémence Pellet, François Victor Eloi Biennourry was a pupil of Michel Martin Drolling, who was a pupil of Jacques-Louis David.
A history painter, he received numerous public commissions during the Second Empire, for the Tuileries Palace in Paris (salons de l'Impératrice, the Emperor's study), the Louvre Palace and numerous Parisian churches. At the same time, he painted official portraits, including that of Charlemagne de Maupas, Minister of the General Police, a fellow countryman from Champagne. In May 1871, he described the burning Tuileries.
The work shown was produced during his 4-year stay at the Académie de France in Rome.
