"Study Of Rocky Ground In A Forest By Louis Cabat, Oil On Thin Cardboard."
French painter and engraver of the Barbizon SchoolA student of Camille Flers, Louis-Nicolas Cabat made his debut at the Salon of 1833. A member of the Accademia di San Luca in Rome, he was elected a member of the Academy of Fine Arts of the Institut de France in 1867, and became director of the Académie de France in Rome from 1879 to 1884. Far from the large composed landscapes, this ground study clearly shows the painter's interest in nature, even in very humble subjects.Studio stamp on the back. Very slight loss in the upper left corner.
