Louis XV-style Norman wedding chest – Bayeux region – 18th century

A very beautiful and substantial Norman wedding chest made of solid oak, dating from the 18th century, from the Bayeux region.

It features a particularly richly carved front, characteristic of large Norman wedding chests: vine tendrils and grape clusters, bouquets of flowers, foliage, shells, and plant motifs, with a superb central bouquet carved in high relief on the pediment.

The two doors are adorned with molded and carved panels, embellished with central medallions featuring floral and plant motifs. The side panels are also richly carved and rest on four strongly curved legs.

The undulating cornice, the pediment decorated with flowers and fruit, and the exceptional quality of the carving give this cabinet a monumental presence and remarkable decorative appeal.

It retains its original hardware, lock, and key, as well as its interior, which features several shelves.
