Set Of Four Period Restoration-era Walnut Chairs With Circular Seats – Early 19th Century

Set of four Restoration-period chairs, dating from the early 19th century, crafted from walnut.

They feature a particularly elegant and uncommon design, characterized by their fully circular seats. The paneled backs are topped by a crossbar carved at the ends with widely curved edges, giving the set a silhouette very characteristic of the period. The slightly saber-shaped rear legs naturally extend the back posts, while the front legs are straight. The front crossbar is curved.

Of particular note is the original antique straw seat, preserved in excellent overall condition. On each chair, the straw seat conforms to the circular seat surface and is made in a single piece—an interesting and unusual detail for this type of chair.

The four chairs come with cushions made from a 19th-century antique fabric featuring red motifs on a light background: rosettes, garlands, flowers, drapery, and birds create a particularly refined design. They are edged with red piping and simply tied to the backs, allowing the original wickerwork to remain visible.
