Pair Of Kneeling Angels Made Of Cast Iron – A. Durenne, Sommevoire – 19th Century
A beautiful and decorative pair of kneeling angels made of cast iron, from the famous Antoine Durenne art foundry in Sommevoire (Haute-Marne).
Presented as a pair, the two angels are depicted kneeling, with their wings spread and their gaze turned toward the sky. One holds a bouquet of flowers in his hands, while his counterpart delicately holds a fold of his tunic.
The rendering of the faces, hair, long robes with soft folds, and wings attests to the care taken in crafting this decorative religious statuary.
Both sculptures rest on rectangular bases. The foundry mark “A. DURENNE – SOMMEVOIRE” is embossed on the base.
