Carved, gilded, and lacquered wooden MAEDATE depicting a dragon carp, with glass eyes and metal whiskers.
One side fin has been reattached.
Dimensions: 24 x 15 x 14 cm.
Sold with its base.

The kabuto is not included with the maedate.
Notes: For the samurai, the dragon carp (ryūgyo /龍魚) embodies the ideal of surpassing oneself and rising above through willpower. Stemming from the legend of the carp that swims upstream and passes through the Dragon Gate to transform into a dragon, it symbolizes perseverance in the face of trials, courage, and achievement. Its hybrid form evokes the gradual transition from one state to another, an image of the warrior who, through discipline and self-control, rises to a higher state.
