Ceramic Lamp Attributed To Roger Capron – Vallauris, Circa 1960
Elegant table lamp in white and polychrome glazed ceramic, attributed to the great ceramicist Roger Capron (1922–2006), a leading figure in the revival of French ceramics in Vallauris in the aftermath of World War II. His work, now internationally recognized, is distinguished by free-form designs, great inventiveness, and a perfect blend of sculpture and functional object.
This piece captivates with its resolutely sculptural design. The body, with its organic and openwork lines, is enlivened by a black graphic decoration accented with touches of green and yellow glaze that lend rhythm and modernity to the composition. The piece as a whole evokes the artistic experiments conducted in Vallauris during the 1950s and 1960s, when ceramics became a true medium of artistic expression.
The lamp has been rewired according to best practices and is offered with its lampshade, whose proportions perfectly highlight the slender silhouette of the base. It is in superb condition, with no notable damage, and makes a striking decorative statement.
Both a light fixture and a sculpture, this piece will naturally find its place in a contemporary or modernist interior, or in a collection dedicated to the great French ceramic artists of the 20th century.
A rare and expressive creation that elegantly illustrates the dialogue between ceramics, design, and sculpture, in the spirit of Vallauris’s finest works.
