Albert Boussion (19th–20th Centuries) On The Quays Of La Joliette

Artist: Albert Boussion (xixe-xxe)
This is an extraordinary work—the creation of an early 20th-century artist, a painter who was a witness to his time, socially conscious, and eager to draw the viewer’s attention to the plight of the working class, just as Charlie Chaplin did in *Modern Times*.
Boussion often depicted in his paintings the harshness of life for the workers on the docks of that era.
Whether loading or unloading steamships, the choice of gray tones creates this very distinctive atmosphere, and the free and dynamic brushwork conveys the frenetic pace of a team of dockworkers focused on their task.
The work is presented in a simple black frame, which measures 73 cm by 93 cm, with the canvas itself measuring 60 cm by 81 cm.
It depicts dockworkers at work on a pier in La Joliette.
The work is signed in the lower right corner.
