Daum France – Crystal Whiskey Decanter, Circa 1960.
DAUM FRANCE – CRYSTAL WHISKEY DECANTER, CIRCA 1960
A very beautiful and elegant crystal whiskey decanter from the prestigious Daum company, made in France circa 1960.
This piece is particularly representative of Daum’s postwar creations, a period during which the manufacturer developed a resolutely modern aesthetic centered on “free forms.” Daum itself traces the emergence of this new style to the 1940s, prior to the major expansion of its artistic and design creations in the 1960s. Daum
The decanter features a substantial body of blown-and-molded crystal, with thick walls that are slightly compressed and irregularly shaped. The deep undulations in the crystal create remarkable plays of light and give the piece a highly sculptural presence.
It is topped by its beautiful original stopper, also made of solid crystal, shaped like a teardrop or a twisted flame, which fits into a neck adorned with a wide metal band.
A beautiful bar piece from the 1960s, ideal as a whiskey or spirits decanter, which perfectly combines function and decorative sculpture.
Signed “Daum France” on the side of the body.
