Early 19th-century Gustavian-style Chest Of Drawers, Circa 1800

An elegant Gustavian-style chest of drawers from Northern Europe, dating from around 1800. This refined piece is a remarkable example of the neoclassical style of the late 18th and early 19th centuries, distinguished by its harmonious proportions, understated design, and timeless elegance.

Crafted entirely of solid oak, this chest of drawers exemplifies the excellent quality of traditional cabinetmaking. Its sturdy construction, hand-crafted dovetail joints, and original plank back panel are all features that attest to its authenticity and the quality of its craftsmanship.

The chest of drawers features three large drawers and retains its brass handles and keyholes, which elegantly highlight the simplicity of its design. During its restoration, its painted finish was entirely recreated in a soft antique white shade subtly tinged with pale blue highlights. The patina, applied by hand with the utmost care, faithfully recreates the appearance of a perfectly preserved antique finish while respecting the piece’s historical character.

The piece has undergone a complete restoration carried out according to the highest standards, ensuring perfect structural stability and the smooth operation of each drawer, all while preserving its historical integrity. It is ready for everyday use and blends harmoniously into both classic and contemporary interiors.

A remarkable testament to the craftsmanship of Northern European cabinetmakers, this chest of drawers combines refined aesthetics, exceptional craftsmanship, and timeless elegance. It will be a standout piece in both a distinguished home and an antique collection.
