Description

Polychrome painted enamel plaque depicting Christ of Mercy (Ecce Homo), executed in translucent reverse enamel, a technique characteristic of 16th-century Limousin workshops.
Christ, crowned with thorns and clad in a robe of mockery, is depicted from the waist up, showing the stigmata of the Passion, against a dark background studded with stars.
The inscription “HOMO,” visible at the bottom of the composition, refers to the biblical phrase Ecce Homo.

The plaque is set in an antique carved, openwork, and gilded wooden frame, likely from the 17th century, with rich decoration of scrollwork and foliage.
This frame highlights the delicacy of the enamel while preserving its historical character.

Condition

The piece is in a condition consistent with its age; the enamel plaque shows signs of wear and previous restorations without detracting from the quality of the depiction.
