Two-drawer Chest (small Model), Dutch Louis XVI Period, Circa 1780–1800.
A two-drawer chest from the late 18th century (small model), made in the Netherlands during the reign of Louis XVI, between approximately 1780 and 1800.Made entirely of solid oak, this chest of drawers is constructed primarily from quarter-sawn wood, ensuring perfect straightness. The two drawers, which slide smoothly, are nailed at the front and joined with dovetail joints at the back, in accordance with the common practice of the time. The front features a semicircular molding, oval brass drawer pulls, and locks adorned with pearls, among other details. These elements replaced the original pulls, which were likely made of brass that had been worn down by polishing. Both locks have also been replaced, and unfortunately, the key is missing. The diagonal side posts flare outward at their bases, and the cabinet rests on tapered square legs. This simple, compact, and easy-to-install model features a magnificent deep, warm reddish-orange-brown hue, a beautiful patina, and the silky sheen of its original wax finish.
