Jean-Laurent Challié, whose real name was Jean Laurent Buffet, began as a Post-Impressionist and went through a brief Fauvist period. He subsequently found his true and full expression in an intimate style of painting in which he demonstrated a controlled hypersensitivity.He exhibited regularly alongside Picasso, Bonnard, Vallotton, and Valtat. As early as 1909, at the Salon d’Automne, his flower paintings attracted attention.
