Description of the work A significant and spectacular Belle Époque-era bronze sculpture depicting a young ephebe (or juvenile Cupid) captured in a particularly ethereal and dynamic pose. The young man is depicted nude, his body rendered according to the rigorous aesthetic standards of the French academic school. In a slight contrapposto, resting on a naturalistic pedestal depicting a rock, he stretches his silhouette toward the sky in a remarkable upward movement. His raised right arm holds a wand that secures the drapery delicately draped over his leg. Small, finely chiseled wings extend from his shoulders, evoking the allegorical or divine nature of the subject. Technical Analysis and Quality of Execution

About the artist Édouard Drouot (1859–1945), a student of the renowned Mathurin Moreau at the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris, was a major figure in salon sculpture. A member of the Salon des Artistes Français since 1889, he received numerous honors there, including an honorable mention at the 1900 World’s Fair.
